New Transparent Sound Barriers Being Tested in Covington
The new Brent Spence project will improve the flow of traffic in one of the most important commercial corridors of the US while supercharging Northern Kentucky’s growth and development.
But the project comes with some problems…
People living in the surrounding area are concerned not only about the noise that will come from the construction but the expanded highway in the long term.
In these scenarios, highways will normally use sound barriers but in this case, that’s out of the question - the Crescent Ave corridor, where the sound barriers will be installed, has some of the best skyline views in the city!
That’s why the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has approved a $4.2 million plan to test new transparent sound barriers along the avenue.
The project should be done by the start of 2024 and residents will have the opportunity to judge how the barriers look, and if they should be installed in other parts of NK to reduce road noise while retaining the fantastic views of the region.

👻 Bobby Mackey's Music World in Wilder, known as the most haunted nightclub in the U.S., has a history of paranormal activity. Ghost hunter Laura Roland has experienced and documented various eerie incidents, though she believes the spirits are not evil. Urban legends surround the club, including tales of violence from the mob era and ghosts like Pearl Bryan. While some seek ghostly encounters, the nightclub remains open for live music and entertainment, with Bobby Mackey performing regularly.
🚊 Cincinnati's streetcar has set a new ridership record in 2023, with 849,161 trips through September, surpassing the 2022 total of 846,622. The increase is attributed to growing familiarity with the system and boosted ridership from events like Taylor Swift's concert and Bengals games. Plans for potential streetcar upgrades and expansion are being considered, with discussions ongoing about where expansion routes might make the most sense. The city is focused on improving the rider experience and evaluating funding models for expansion.
🤑 A Florence man won $1 million on a Millionaire Club Scratch-off ticket from a Kroger in Burlington, Ky. He initially thought he had won $100 but soon realized it was a million-dollar prize. He surprised his wife, and after taxes, they collected $710,000 just in time for their wedding anniversary. They plan to use the winnings for a family vacation and save for retirement.
